Wendy Shanker was passing through security at the St. Louis airport Friday when the X-ray machine detected a potential weapon inside her carry-on bag. A screener dug into the satchel and found a pair of scissors that Shanker used for knitting. The scissors' blades were shorter than the 4-inch federal limit so the screener plopped them back into the

I have one better. While going on Vacation in late August. I made it on a plane with a lighter in my pocket. I forgot it was there and it wasn't detected by the scanners. Which all lighters and matches are on the banned list. You can only take 4 books of matches in your checked luggage.

      We are surrounded by idiots.

First, it is exceedingly unlikely that you could mix liquids to form an explosive on a plane. You need ice baths, thermometers, smooth conditions and a ton of luck to pull it off.

Second, apparently unless they handsearch each and every bag and person entering a plane, they can't stop liquids from being on the plane in the first place. So basically it is a voluntary restriction. So a terrorist would ignore the restriction, while the rest of us don't pack liquids because we might lose them to a screener.

We are governed by fools. But we are the bigger fools because we allow it.

Well they did stop me with the water. I had a shopping bag that I had dropped a bottle of water into so I could free up a hand. I forgot about it and they discovered it. I feel they should just discontinue the carry-on practice all together. If they feel it's a real threat and something can really happen why take that chance with so many lifes?

I say they should issue full cavity searches for anyone caught breaking the rules...If 'you' feel that you simply will not abide by the rules, then who is to stop someone hell-bent on causing some serious damage and destruction from breaking the rules too? Mind you, it's probably unlikely that anyone of middleeastern appearance will ever get onto a plane again without a public inquest as to why he's travelling as well as a public enema......just to be safe......

            'spread them again....please'

Of course, that would only deter the terrorists of middleeastern decent.... That won't stop the Scottish ones....

I agree with you Queens. What do you think the Scotch are capable of?

A Scottish 'Fighters for independence' group claimed that they have the ability and will contaminate all of the drinking water in England...It sounds more like a U.K problem though, and not a global one...
