Sept. 6, 2006, 10:02 a.m.Although my expertise lies in US mints, im fairly knowlegable with ancient coins.
It looks like a Roman Denari (sp?)
The funny thing about these coins is that like the article stated, its hard to puit a value on it...........but its usually pretty low
The irony in it, is that a US coin in low grade condition of say around 1800 is worth FAR MORE than a Roman coin of 2000 years old. its all about demand. theres little deman for the roman/greek coins of the ancients. museums will sometimes want them
You can pick that coin up or ones similar to it for anywhers from $10-150 depending on material, condition. year, and scarcity of that year

Sept. 6, 2006, 11:24 a.m.It's no big deal. My husband studies Roman and Greek coins and we have hundreds of them that are as old as that coin. My husband carries them in his pockets all the time; maybe the one she found is one of his. They are not worth all that much . Some more than others, but not a big deal. We have bagsful.

Sept. 6, 2006, 12:12 p.m.STONERS: Collections arent about the money, tis about the collection. and like she said, they arent worth THAT much.
I have an 1865 3(three) cent piece around my neck right now.....no biggie
i doubt they have "bagsfull".......unless theyre coin dealers........or have a lot of money to throw around, but its really not as big of a deal as most people think

Sept. 6, 2006, 12:21 p.m.STONERS: No problem
not enough to make anyone rich like u would think a 2000 year old artifact would.
but coins in general are a great investment, like classic cars.
They only go up in value with every passing year, u never lose your money

Sept. 6, 2006, 12:36 p.m.STONERS: u can find local dealers, they have shops. U gotta find a good one though. its kinda like buying a used car, theyres some slimy dealers out there but theres also great ones who have a passion for it and genuinly want to see people enjoy their collection.
you can always look in your local yellow pages, usually Stamps and Coin shops go together and sell them together
