If said teenager got perfect score on BOTH test anywhere I would bet my bank acount they cheated. heck the chances of not mismarking 1 circle in the corse of both test is in itself improbable.

Good for him.....to say that he must have cheated goes to show how cynical and jaded people in this country have beoome. We should be proud and singing this young man's praises instead of finding fault.

It's virtually impossible to cheat on those tests- that in itself would be a major feat. Believe it or not, there ARE intelligent, brilliant Americans and they are not all apart or our iconic past. Good for him. I hope he gets a free ride to college and makes the world a better place.

Why are people so afraid when others achieve? This kid wasn't handed these scores - he earned them. I like him. The end.

Dang I envy him. Thhat kid's either brilliant enough to get these scores or brilliant enough to cheat on the tests. Either way he deserves a free ride.

You actually do not necessarily have to answer every question correct to get a perfect score on either test. I know for a fact you do not for the ACT, because they take the average of your scores on the 4 sections. And on the SAT you could miss a question and still get a perfect score, especially if that question is in the verbal section. It all depends on what percentile you fall in.

Also, I really hate it when people think of the youth of America as all vapid, unintelligent students. I just graduated from the number 11 university in the country, and the top students in our generation are just as smart if not smarter than the top in any past generation. That is at least what our faculty, deans, and chancellor tell us. I see no reason why they would lie to us; by the time they tell us they already have our money.

Regardless, even if he cheated, which I doubt he did, I still say great job.

homoiousian - I'm glad the faculty, deans and chancellor agree with your parents.:-) And I'm glad you have a sense of humor about it because today's youth aren't "smarter, " i.e. more intelligent. However, they do, for the most part, seem more involved and perhaps more driven.

Anyway, congratulations upon your graduation! Go get 'em.

homoiuaisian: thats right you do not have to answer every question. You are instructed to answer the ones you are sure of and make your best guess through process of elimination for the others. You dont have to answer every one. So part of the challenge is to know what you dont know and move on to what you do know. Test taking strategy courses are as important as test material knowledge and it is rarely taught...have to take outside course for strategy.

As for his background it could be anything. Intelligent parents dont always have high achieving kids...they tend to have spoiled kids. Families that are economically stressed, middle intelligence to low tend to have kids who push hard to have a better life than what they were born into...statistically speaking.
