Aug. 12, 2006, 3:31 p.m."First, what stopped this plot was law enforcement. Law enforcement. Not a military invasion of Pakistan, Iran, Lebanon, Egypt, or Iraq. Old-fashioned surveillance, development of human sources, putting pieces together, and cooperation with foreign police and intelligence services."
This from the same people who are trying to hamstring the President's efforts of electronic surveillance at every turn. The British technique of "seek and peek" that they used to gather info would *never* pass muster with the civil libertarians.

Your right on. In fact when you do capture terrorists you don't get them a bunch of high priced lawyers, but you do make them talk by whatever means. The old civil liberties concept is way outdated but the liberals don't catch on until they get blown away by a terrorist.
You'll note that they learned about this plot from a would be captured London subway bomber. Now do you think he fessed up on his own.
I also noticed that one of the plane bombers was a woman with a 2 y.o. kid. Thats why you have to check baby formula as well as everything else.

Aug. 12, 2006, 4:03 p.m."Second, the conspiracy — if it resembles the London bombings of last summer — will likely be home-grown, another of the growing jihad "fashion" in Europe that comprises the new street gangs of this world. It is not a religious movement, it is not fundamentalism. These are thin veneers."
Mohammed Atta and his fellow hijackers were, for the most part, *not* dead-end losers but members of the middle class. I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case with a lot of this bunch, as well. As for it not being a religious movement, the author is kidding himself. Why did one of the conspirators write a martyrdom note if it isn't?
Liberals just can't get a grip on the idea of a holy war. They're so bought into the victim chic mentality that they think that money can solve the world's problems. The idea that these radicals spit on your liberal worldview wouldn't register even if they cut off your head.

Shhhhh. Amnesty International might hear that.

Aug. 12, 2006, 4:12 p.m.It is barely possible that John Tirman and the folks at alternet did learn the first point from this past weeks' events, although it has been obvious to the educated among us for many years that we are dealing with criminals. I'll give them a point for waking up on that one.
But the rest of the article is no different from the articles posted on alternet last week and the week before. They dislike President Bush and disagree with his policies, and none of that has changed in light of the recently uncovered conspiracy. They will use any pretext to attack the administration, and that has certainly not changed because of the plot to destroy up to ten airliners and send a few thousand innocent people to their destruction. And the specific criticisms, which Tirman claims

Aug. 12, 2006, 4:12 p.m.Wow that would be swell if the uberlib ACLU pukes would actually let the cops and feds do their work instead of crying that every thing the Bush admin tries to do is a predecessor to the new American Reich. Honestly. Its like the cops have to be psychic to please these morons

Aug. 12, 2006, 4:15 p.m.What a bunch of "smoke and mirrors", of statements supported with no facts or truth!
According to the various news articles I have thus far read, these terrorist (killers of children) were found because of tracking money and phone conversations.
Gee, who is the biggest supporter and leader in these fields? The USA!
Why is the USA the leader?
Because the US Congress back in 2002 voted in their Declaration of War that the US was going to take on global terrorism and they instructed Pres. Bush to use everything militarily and civil possible to terminate global terrorism!
The US Congress has voted by a large majority each year since to continue this war on terror!
Also, yes the English has release that there is a link to "you now that group whose leader is living in a cave like an animal". Sort of sound like Sadam when we found him hiding in his hole!
Thank God that the DEMS & REPs in the US Congress vote the way they did and do.

resulted from "the lessons learned from recent events," they are exactly the same as alternet's previous criticisms of the President. So what did they "learn?"
I am tired of the same old same old. I am ready for something new and constructive--but I doubt that I'll find it on alternet.
PS--I am also tired of having my messages truncated by Mr. Clacanis' inadequate server,

Aug. 12, 2006, 4:22 p.m.By the way, the number of terroists is dropping, not raising.
You say prove this. OK.
In the late 1990's up to 9-11-01 and a while thereafter, most if not all of the Muslem countries (10's of millions upon 10's of millions) supported terrorists with money, arms, training, living space, etc.
Now, two yes two, count them, two Muslem countries support terrorists (killers of children). They are Syria and Iran.
According to many media prodcasts, many (in Iran they say most) don't agree with this government sponsor of terrorism.
So a few million possibles don't come near the 100's of millions that used to!
Stop the "smoke and mirrors" and start telling the truth!

Aug. 12, 2006, 5:04 p.m.Informative article. The creation of many copycat groups is always a possibility in any situation. I think our illegal invasion has done a lot to help hezbollah, Hamas recruitment. I don't remember hearing much about them before 2001, and then from the mouthpieces of the white house. I won't make any judgments on this english event until more comes out about it. I just don't trust gov's easliy anymore.
How long have luvmyprez and emckane been swapping bodily fluids? Eyes popping out, probably a good indication that you're full, of something. Maybe you 2 might get together for a marble rolling contest, or a good skull fu*king

Aug. 12, 2006, 5:09 p.m.froggy I like the points you brought up about how these guys & gals were supposed to cook this stuff up on board. Why if they caught these guys is it paramount that every American now has to be stripped bare to get on a plane.
I am disturbed by people who are so compliant as to say, hey what ever they need to do to keep us safe.
Is one tube of lipstick really going to be able to be made into a bomb? Where they going to corrale all the women on board and say hand over your makeup? Do you really think if this even happened the people on the plane would not have ripped them to shreds with thier bare hands?
I see this as an attempt to produce a compliant docile public.

Aug. 12, 2006, 5:21 p.m.Froggy "Number 2. The whole idea of mixing explosives on board a pressurized cabin is ridiculous. Smells, heat, etc. Like your neighbor trying to cook meth without you being aware of it. Mixing the stuff they are claiming was to be used would take over 6 hours to do. Mixing corrosive and very smelly chemicals and using lots of ice in the cabin for six hours without being detected doing it? LMAO Not bloody likely"
Where do you get your info? Just curious. One respondant to the website says the explosive was tatp, and then tcap. Hmmm. Discrepancy there. Who says they know what they're talking about. If anything, these nuts have proved to be be ingenious. Before Richard Reed, who'd heard of a shoe bomb? Once again you refuse to acknowledge that there may actually be something to this, and find suitable info (that may or may not relate to this case) to dismiss it as BS. One day, these aholes are going to pull it off again. You will then A)Blame it on Bush or B) Claim its all a Govt plot

Aug. 12, 2006, 5:28 p.m.Ahh. According to Wikipedia, there are two forms of this explosive. One requires refrigeration to obtain a stable compound, the other is highly unstable and explosive at room temperature. How would that be unfavorable to a suicide bomber? Mix two components in a plane bathroom and boooooommm. Can you see how that might work froggy?

Aug. 12, 2006, 6:17 p.m.Numerous questions need to be asked about this latest attempt by the dirty Neo-Fascist slugs to bully people into placating to being treated like slaves and updates on the frothing propaganda being spewed by the news networks need to be quantified.
For what it's worth, Drudge currently has this on his front page....
CNN: 'Don't use your cellphone within 50 feet of a suspicious object, you might detonate something'...
Absolute twilight zone irrational bullshit.

Aug. 12, 2006, 7:11 p.m.Well placed intelligence sources are starting to provide some interesting details about the so-called airline bomber plot. It turns out that Ruppert Murdoch's thugs were wiretapping Prince Charles' cellphone calls and discovered that he was plotting with a left-leaning minister to unseat Britain's unpopular Prime Minister, Tony Blair and make things difficult for his anticipated neocon successor, Home Secretary Reid. In the ensuing panic among neocon psychopaths a false-flag scheme was hatched by Murdoch, involving elements of British intelligence and law enforcement to serendipitously interdict a terrorist conspiracy.
The plane was actually bound for Boston where the Dumbya dictatorship was to share in the spoils of false flag victory. However, the pilot, fearing for his passengers refused to obey orders to stay the course and returned the plane to its British airport.
Nonetheless, this joint venture was milked for all it was worth - especially by the Repugs on Murdoch'sFaux News

Aug. 12, 2006, 7:43 p.m.The first lesson is to extend these airport restrictions on what can be taken aboard an airplane world wide. Any group that brings down 9 or more planes, headed in any direction not just from England to the U.S., would cause air traffic worldwide to come to a quick stop. Al Qeada's rule is that you hit the next softest spot that no one expects. America with planes, then Spain on trains, and then London in the subway. Feel free to call the FBI, the FAA and your Congress man or woman now.
Making zealots willing to kill themselves is in Al Qeada's and other Arab terrorists basic handbook. A news story has 11 of the terrorists living within three blocks of each other. You all should read the book by Eric Hoffer, The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements.
