July 27, 2006, 3:28 p.m.Has anyone seen the new movie "Who Killed The Electic Car?"
I heard a story about it on NPR last week, and it shows how the car companies and oil companies colluded to kill off GM's popular EV-1.

July 27, 2006, 3:44 p.m.Some thing is seriously wrong when an American Corporation keeps announcing record earnings while we are now paying record breaking prices per gallon.
If they cared at all about the consumers they would cut the profits to benefit the nation. But they don’t care, American Corporations have gotten so “Greedy†over the past 2 decades that it has changed the way we do business, for the worse.

July 27, 2006, 4:55 p.m.I know all the oil companies are profiting from the high oil prices and we are the ones paying for it but I simply refuse to buy gas from Exxon any more and I think if others would do the same they would have no choice but to lower the price. They are the largest gas corporation out there and we as Americans need to make a statement that we are tried of this. The only was to get them to listen is through the pocketbook. Did I hear that their CEO gave himself a bonus of something like $50,000,000.00 last year. I wonder how many gallons of gas that could buy?

July 27, 2006, 5:40 p.m.Although in sheer dollars it is a staggering amount, in terms of profit percentage it's not as big as it would seem. It's a 10% net profit. Pretty good but most businesses earn 5-7% so it isn't really some big profit overkill number.
The business is also cyclical. Results like this are temporary and usually offset by other years which aren't nearly so good. Anyone who works in the industry knows this and has been hit pretty hard in the down times.
I know it's tempting to blame Exxon and the other oil companies but the problem is really that worldwide demand is up because of economic growth in developing countries. It's a better use of your energy to look at China and India as the source of the problem.

July 27, 2006, 5:48 p.m.Hey, this profit plan has been in effect since we entered IRAQ to remove SADDAM HUSSEIN and stablize the IRAQI oil output..With out IRAQ in the game Saudi Arabia ,which controls OPEC ,can set the quotas and be sure they will be met and thus stablize the industry .. SADDAM HUSSEIN was a maverick who delighted in upsetting the SAUDI plan..Bush is an oil man and receives much DINERO from the oil companies..This was the BAIT to get us into IRAQ, We are now into o=operation I=IRAQI L=Liberation ="OIL" any way you spell it ..it`s profit..THEY WIN, WE LOSE..

July 27, 2006, 6:01 p.m.F@#$%&*k this! Goddam oil companies. Their CEO's should be dowsed with their own product and lit on fire.

July 27, 2006, 6:04 p.m.I know everyone wants to make this a political issue. If we just got out of Iraq and ran Bush off we'll be OK. It's simply not true. Until global demand for energy slows down we'll be paying prices like this.
Sorry Duffer. The Bush family aren't big players in the energy industry and to assume this is all driven by their personal interest is to fundamentally misunderstand the situation. There are much bigger forces at work here. If you want something to really worry about monitor the activities of China, Russia, and Venezuela in the energy sector.

July 28, 2006, 12:17 a.m.Don't get angry at Exxon, get even. Let's start a boycott. If everybody went somewhere other than an Exxon/Mobil there profits will be hurt substantially. They will have no choice but to lower prices and the rest will have to follow.

July 28, 2006, 6:16 a.m.What happened to free enterprise when oil companies tell the retailer what price they must charge for gas at the pumps? Where is competition when every brand of gasoline sells for the same price? Do we really think the crisis in the middle-east is the cause? Other petroleum-based products are not increasing at the same rate as gasoline and no other petroleum-based product is so obviously price-fixed. Why do we look under rocks for the problem without addressing the problem that is in plain sight? We need to allow retailers to set their own prices and we can once again enjoy the fruit of free enterprise and competitive pricing.

July 28, 2006, 8:24 a.m.What if. Everyone in the United States bought fuel from Exxon, would that force prices down on other brands. If so there would have to be a pattern, like only Exxon in August and only another brand in September and so on.
Does no one remember the gas wars of the 1960's. But to try to organize some American's just won't work.

July 28, 2006, 8:35 a.m.Well lets see, We have a president who's family's money comes from oil and were a nation of sheep who dont protest or boycot anything so nothing sounds fishy there. Free enterprise is the American way, but so are protest and boycots. If the oil companies can get $3.00 a gallon and as a nation and we dont protest and boycot then everyone should just continue being the nation of sheep we are and have been for over 20 years pull our suv's up to the pump and pay the price.

July 28, 2006, 9:02 a.m.Any one who thinks our government is not to blame for the high fuel prices needs to look at how corrupt the United States government is!!! If they were actually concerned about the Taxpayers and what we pay for Fuel, they would be looking into alternate fuel sources.Remember Gas is a Byproduct of making Diesel Fuel. I don’t understand how 10 billion dollars profit is not considered Price Gouging. Remember Profit is Over and Above what it Costs to make the Product .It doesn’t cost any more to produce a gallon of gas now than it did before the Hurricanes that hit the Gulf Coast. It doesn’t help that our government has a direct interest in the Oil Industry.
