Posted by: moemebe 2 years, 3 months agoBritish Prime Minister Tony Blair and U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan called Monday for the deployment of international forces to stop Hezbollah from bombing Israel. July 17, 2006, 6:40 a.m.Bush has got to learn at some point that there is always a microphone on him. His comments will be picked up and sent around the world.

July 17, 2006, 7:01 a.m.I have read this several time and fail to see anything the president said out of place. The man has to be permitted to speak otheer than into a microphone. As for sending troops to Israel, they seem to be doing quite well on their own.

July 17, 2006, 7:21 a.m.I don't see anything news worthy in the story either...simply expressing his frustration with the Syrians... nothing he hasn't stated publically about them. Bush haters will always find a reason to be critical of him no matter what.

July 17, 2006, 7:30 a.m.I agree...the President is human. What I want to know is where is the President on this whole issue. The headline has Blair and Annan being quite engaged but we need more from our President than "Stop This S***" and being overly worried as to if he is going to be able to leave Russia at 2:15. At a press conference the other day all we heard from our Commander In Chief was a bunch of 'Pig Jokes' for goodness sakes. The United States should be leading the world in an effort to bring about peace to the region.

July 17, 2006, 7:45 a.m.Lets face it ,every time the United States makes a move or a suggestion it is construed to be biased toward Israel . If Blair can take that pressure off so be it. If UN troops are sent in it would surely tell the world who is interested in Peace or war. Sounds like that may be what is needed..

July 17, 2006, 7:52 a.m.Duffer,
Every move the US makes IS biased toward Israel - or were you being sarcastic.
Yeah, we need to send in the troops to stop those nasty Hezbas from bombing jew-land, they need to be good little targets and sit still while Israel bombs all the suburbs and civilians around them.

July 17, 2006, 8:01 a.m.I agree that UN international troops should go in as well...Also agree with Tim that 'Leadership' from the United States is lacking in this part of the world. Frankly, Condi Rice should have already gone to the region. It may be a little late for the President to say "She May Go".

July 17, 2006, 8:38 a.m.I don't understand why the "world leaders" haven't condemned the blatant destruction of civil infrastructures (such as Beirut airport, the port, roads and its fuel reserves) for being out of line. It looks to me like Beirut is becoming a new Sarajevo: first you isolate the town, then you bomb it. Why does this feel like it's been planned a long time ago?

July 17, 2006, 9:02 a.m.Bush is surely not interested in peace in the middle east other wise he wouldnt have vetoed the world opinon. I sure he is not the smartest person on earth who knows everything thats right. Just because he is president of USA he is allowed to make decisions far beyond the capacity of his IQ.

July 17, 2006, 9:16 a.m.Putting peacekeepers in Israel is suggested by the title of the article. That would be worthless. If the UN wants to do something worthwile, they should put peacekeepers in Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah, prevent more attacks, and keep the Israels at home. The problem is clearly being caused by Hezbollah at the direction of Iran.

July 17, 2006, 9:17 a.m.Let me add that while I've been very critical on the President's domestic and foreign policies (which to date have been largely ignorant of international cause and effect) I dearly hope that he and the whole of this administration get it right concerning Israel. Folks, forget the politics, that region's turmoil from Israel to Iraq and Iran is all about who gets to buy oil. Don't be surprised if our chums in Russia and China decide to back the Arabs in hoping numbers determine the balance.
Let me also add- it sucks that the world of Islam can't get together and condemn and thus isolate their violent militant less than socially conscious extremists. Each Muslim country's religious leaders should convene somehow and speak out about the black eye being put on their religion.

July 17, 2006, 9:30 a.m.Hey picador, land from your cloud and stop blaming Bush, Israel and God himself for the troubled Middle East. If everybody minded their own business, lived and let live, everything will be allright. I work daily with microphones and know that the truth usually comes out when people think they are no on air and dare to speak their minds. Good for George Bush that he let the cat out of the bag...as well as a couple of Arab leaders in Cairo who said "Palestinians are an embarrassement to the Arab world" and that Hezbollah had done some "very senseless move in Lebanon"...what about that? Maybe Lebanon as well will learn to care about the lebanese population and stop being a puppet government.

July 17, 2006, 9:52 a.m.Shoshana, As near as I can see, Lebanon has no army to force Hezbollah to disarm or do anything else, and therefore, Lebanon is run by Hezbollah who have interest in the welfare of the Lebanese people.

July 17, 2006, 11:02 a.m.This idea that it's up to the US to preserve peace in the world is total bullshit. We simply do not have enough soldiers to police the entire planet, and to try would only hasten the demise of our once great nation(a demise, by the way, which is coming no matter what we do).
Pull all the troops back home. Put them on the borders and CLOSE THEM. Stop issueing tens of thousands of visas annually. Get serious about deporting ALL illegals.
The rest of the world already hates us, so F**K them. Shut down all foriegn aid programs and let them die of starvation, disease and famine. Give that $$ to AMERICANS who are suffering from disease and starvation (there's no shortage of them).
Tap ANWAR and increase offshore drilling in our own waters. Fund oil exploration in Canada and Mexico (we already buy more crude from Canada than from any other country, including those in the mideast). Federally finance everything from nuclear plants to wind farms.

July 17, 2006, 11:04 a.m.80% of the countries in the world consider the US "the Great Satan". It's time to justify that opinion.

July 17, 2006, 11:18 a.m.To all those who naively consider Israel to be victim: Wake up! Israel is Aggressor!
To every conflict there are two sides. It is narrowminded and unfair to only look at things from the Israeli prospective. This behavior; like the head of the Arab leage puts it, has killed the peace process in the Middle East. Unfairness and frustration only lead to more terrorism.
Hizbollah attacked military targets, and this by international law is legal. Their reason is valid: to exchange them for Lebanese prisoners, some since 28 years.
Which is the only country in the world that steps over every UN resolution and puts itself in the place of God by giving itself the right to choose who lives and who dies. Which country bombed and killed 21 Civilians who were fleeing a village as ordered by the Israeli troops. Which country bombed and killed 100 civilians who took refuge in the UN headquarters back in 1996?
Wake up and admit the truth. Or are you scared they might kidnap and kill you too ?

July 17, 2006, 11:23 a.m.US is not and has never been "the Great Satan". it is the people behind the hidden agenda of world domination that already dominate the US policy making. those faceless people are the satans hell bent on dominating oil from mideast and minds from the european countries.
if US minds its own business and stops meddling into the affairs of each country, be it israel, syria or north korea, it would be one of the best countries in the world.

July 17, 2006, 11:37 a.m.one comment, Picador is absolutly correct. And soldiers are hardly a sign of peace in an already over militarized region. This is also why Blair isn't too worried about being ousted, all of a sudden. The bullsh*t just keeps flowing. Next it will be Iran, just like the little Bush wants. No reply necessary, I won't be coming back to this board or any board so top heavy with stupidity and blindness. Wake up and smell the complicity. Gee, I wonder why this region hates the western influence. All except those poor innocent, peaceful Israelis.

July 17, 2006, 11:45 a.m.picador - I am not defending the actions of US administrations, past or present. I agree we over-meddle, and I also believe oil to be one (although not the only) reason why. We are a nation of spoiled, bigoted people who debate vehemently without taking the time to learn the issues.
But how many US aid dollars are sent abroad each year? How many rouge nations are kept in check by just the intimation of US intervention?
That is the stuff that must stop. Screw the rest of the world. They don't want us there, so let's leave. And when they're dying from famine or being overrun by hostiles and they beg us for help, well, they can go ****** in their hat.
