July 13, 2006, 10:43 a.m.Once again we see the Middle East oil sheiks gouging the United States with one hand while their brother arabs hold their hands out for US Foreign Aid to steal from our taxpayers.
When will the USA learn that there are NO muslim Friends to us. They consider us infidels and targets and victims.

July 13, 2006, 11:21 a.m.How long must this myth go on. Most of our oil comes from North and South America. Can anyone name the #1 country that provides oil to the US... anyone? CANADA.. #2? MEXICO.. Look it up. This is an excuse to raise the price and make money for the oil companies and the stockholders.

July 13, 2006, 12:17 p.m.the people who run this administration are in the back pockets of the oil companies so what a surprise that these companies are making record profits

July 13, 2006, 12:21 p.m.I believe it's Argentina that provides us with the most oil. But since Oil is traded and drilled for all over one country can dictate the price. That is unless we decide to drill our own in areas inside the US - only then can we survive the cost per gallon. That is until the govt. steps in and rasies the tax per gallon. If the Govt. just took their taxes off the gas we'd be paying appox. a little under 2.00 per gallon !

July 13, 2006, 12:24 p.m.remember when gas prices were under a dollar and all the politcians wanted to do was raise the gas taxes a nicle here a dime here now what are they going to do when they need to raise taxes?

July 13, 2006, 1:04 p.m.Canada is our #1 supplier followed by Mexico. Argentina is #16 according to the Official Energy Statistics from the US Government.

July 13, 2006, 1:22 p.m.Thanks for the update - I always thought it was Argentina
thanks for educating me ! Hope you have a great day !

July 13, 2006, 1:29 p.m.Nope, and actually I went to double check, and Canada is the largest supplier of individual countries. The Persian Gulf as a whole is in fact where we get most of our oil.

July 13, 2006, 1:36 p.m.When I was in Desert shield/storm the base had a few of us go downtown. I just chanced some dollars to Riyal (Saudi currency) so when we stopped at a Saudi gas station to fill up because one tank of gas would not get us their I converted it over and we paid 25 cents a gallon for gas. It was about $1.45 here in the states. So I know first hand who is sticking it to us try our own government. Bush is not going to open any oil reserves we have. That oil is bought and paid for at a cheaper rate. He will sell us that expensive stuff today because that lines him, his dad, Big oil in Texas, and the oil companies pockets. We need to force our government's hand. How I don't know. I know for starter we need a complete breakdown of where the price pf gas really goes.

July 13, 2006, 1:37 p.m.Well looks like we agree on this topic, rushan.
I think we ought to return to imperialist ways, starting with seizing Iraq's oil to pay for our assistance.
Then we should conquer additional oil sources as we need them to keep oil at about a buck fifty per gallon. This altruistic war mongering is killing my budget.
It would be a lot harder for our enemies to spit on us if they were busy trembling in fear.

July 13, 2006, 1:41 p.m.Doesn't anyone think it's embarrassing that we still use the same black crap that we did over one hundred years ago to power things today? Oil companies can make the same amount of money, if not more, if they turn themselves into energy companies and find alternative methods. Look at Kodak. It didn't panic, start hyperventilating and go out of business when digital cameras became the norm. They simply made digital cameras. There's so much fear in the industry to change anything we'll never get out from under oil.

July 13, 2006, 1:48 p.m.One word - OPEC, they set the price and we pay it. Now if we had electric cars, which by the way got more torque and can theoretically move a car faster than an ICE, we wouldnt have this problem.
As far as Oil, there is Trinidad and Tobago which produces the best Ammonia, Urea and Natural Gas grades in the world. Their Petroleum is so damned good and juicy, that Amoco set up shop there in the 70's and wont leave. The oil off their eastern coast is deep and plenty, yet we buy from Saudia Arabia - who by the way thinks us to be pigs! If you visit the land, you can only go certain places, not because of security, but because you are a Kaffir (a non-believer). And we help these people by buying their oil?

July 13, 2006, 2:43 p.m.Floridas complaining of off shore oil rigs hurting there precious vactioners/envirmental impact.A small percentage of the population. Also the other small percentage of the population thinks gas prices need to be higher to change our ways. can go ,?."++-?> your-selves.Higher prices = spending less PLain and simple.Besides the last time I was in florida coast I could not see 50 miles of shore. Those snow birds must have superhuman eyesight. How did such a small percentage of the 2 hundred million + population get such control over our lives.I did not vote for higher gas prices. So in protest Im staying home every saturday till the lord only knows.Between the hours of 6am and 3 pm.Thats the only day I can afford to protest. Thanks for reading.I have to go back to work to pay for all my extra cost of fuel. Also to all readers of this sorry I dont normally -

July 13, 2006, 2:51 p.m.I'm all for higher prices. Europeons still pay twice what we do but their smarter and use public transportation and (gasp!) their own two feet. We don't need to drill off the coast of Florida, we need to stop using oil, period. It's not about people vacationing in Florida. I wouldn't want all that crap off my coast if I lived there, let alone vacationed there. Let's find a better way to power things.

July 13, 2006, 3:08 p.m.The beston has a great point no one wants it in there back yard.Everyone should walk, ride there bikes, use public transportation were there is one.Again I say a small percentage, not sure were you live no choice by me.They know we need to gas up our cars to work.We have no choice they are winning.Until the rest of the 2 hundred + million of our population stands up votes makes waves to be heard nothing will change.very little has changed since the 70s.We must of had our roaring 20s in the 90s hate to see what comes next.History repeats it self when there is no change.

July 13, 2006, 6:32 p.m.Our federal government gets roughly $.60 for EVERY GALLON of gas sold in the US for doing absolutely NOTHING, the local government gets their own amount($.39 in Texas) for "road work". This latest oil hike was due to "investor fears"..WTF! Seriously, this has got to stop!
One thing is certain, people ARE changing their ways. I've seen about a 200% increase in the amount of motorcycles on the roads which get over 40mpg on average.

July 13, 2006, 7:59 p.m.Fact of the matter is that all sides are playing us Americans for fools. They need to keep prices up for the stock portfolios. Between the actual stocks and equity options the money people are making more money. It's all fixed and at our expense. With the technology today, we could run on alternative fuels only needing some crude for production of minor items.
Certain agendas want to keep technology off the market until they're done filling their overstuffed wallets. Then when we're almost broke, they will come forward with the 'break through'. We're being played for chumps as we're being entertained by our internet, Playstations, cell phones, ipods, and the rest.
Let's remember this for the next election and forget the smoke screens being used to divide the people (abortion, gay marriages, morals, etc.). We're being played for chumps with these issues. Fear the loss of penions, social security, etc. The money is being stolen..hands over fists!!!!
