Birds of a feather flock together... and eventually roost together evidently.

Wouldn't it be great if we had a leader for a president that could actually speak intelligently--that was actually interested in resolving our country's problems rather than always promoting his (& his handlers) private agendas? We need someone like our great leaders of the past who faced & resolved difficult times by leading & inspiring the people with courage & honor. Instead, we have the Bush-cos who depend on fear of terrorism & secrecey to justify their self-serving "public service."

To Olivia 2537. Yes it would be nice if we had an intelligent President. The thing is he is not. He's such an embarrassment! And he cares about no one.

So what they are saying in the article is that alot of world leaders wont be seeking re-elections in their own country.

And this means what to America?

Nothing more then jibber-jabber.

Hours after N.Korea launches missles in an antagonist fashion there is nothing on Netscape about that...but the Anti-American Bush bashing continues.

Lame.

The article is written as if the other leaders are being forced out, which is not true! They simply are not running. In contrast, the leaders of Canada and Germany, those who refused to join the USA have been forced out of office. And the new leaders of those countries are unabashedly pro-Bush.

Our service men and women love Bush. They think he is a great leader, as do many Americans. Face it, the anti-Bush league is habited by deranged paranoid narcissistic liars; probably the result of big city overcrowding.

We need a courageous leader who understands the difference between cruelty and courage. A leader who will uphold the Constitution and Bill of Rights. A leader whom the American people believe is trustworthy and honest, especially when peoples' lives are at stake. Did someone say Bush is a great leader? Now that's plain ridiculous.

You don't thump a bible robear, you can actually read it. You see, it has words in it that when put together, is called a sentence. You should try reading something informative sometime. Feel free however,to thump yourself in the head for believing all the liberal garbage you breath.

This is in response to Proud Republican, and any conservative.

I am a proud Democrat. Do y’all know that Democrat is close to the word Democracy. Something Republicans seem to know nothing about.

I would just like to have a legitimate government instead of leaders (Republicans) that go around steeling votes and keeping other from doing their civil duty.

Ciao,

One ******ed off neo-Latin democrat!

Belgium just called for an investigation of the SWIFT leak in the U.S. because it jeopardized part of their own national security program.

Now we know that the NY Times actually did do damage.

Than you Belgium for exposing the liberal conduct for what it was, "treason."

Conservative people seem to perpetuate ignorance and discrimination. Isn't that against the Bible, a conservative religious document that I am quiet familiar with?

Every day conservative Neanderthals promote fear, hate, and stereotypes. It makes me sick to believe that there are actually Christians that believe such things. But there is one thing Bush did get right, he knows how to use fear as tool to get reelected or steal the election.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this comment page supposed to be used to comment on the ARTICLE, and NOT to bash someone who doesn't believe the same as you? Isn't there enough fighting in the world? Do we really have to take it to the keyboards and computer screens as well? :-/

Leaders rotate in and out of office in democracies. This is part of the democratic process. Generally they move on to new things. A former president or prime minister is much in demand and can easily make many times his government salary speaking and visiting board meetings etc. All with little risk. Often in a parliamentary system a former PM get's to form a new govenrment in afew years anyway.

The tone of the article is that world leaders who are freinds with Bush are being forced to pay a professional and personal price. This seems more like wishful thinking or propaganda.

I think the exact opposite is the case- the French government and German government have lost a lot of juice in the last 4 years. They have sown they can be bought by any tinhorn dictator. Other countries like Poland have shown that they are greater nations on the world stage.

our choice of presidents is limited to pick the the one who sucks the least. Or the best of one. Damn sure Bush was the only choice. It scares me that people actually voted for Gore. Its time to have more choices of parts that the Rep's & Dem's. Ir's time to end the electorial vote and count each persons vote. It's time to take our country back shut down the borders and take care of the american people first and foremost.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them (the United States), or in ADHERING TO THEIR ENEMIES, giving them aid and comfort. Section 3, Article III of the Constitution of the United States of America. Before siding with declared ememies of the state, consider that "adhering to their (the United States) enemies is an act of treason, as written by our founding fathers. Also, not all conservatives are bible thumpers. I am a University educated scientist who happens to be an athiest! My politics is not based upon faith, but muscled out from reason. The President has but one PRIMARY job and that is clearly defined by Section 2 of Article II of our great Constitution, and that is Commander in chief of the armed forces. Therefore, for the sake of our security, we need a junkyard dog in office. As for Pres. Bush's supposed lack of intelligence, suppose you attend Yale for four years and report back just how extraordinarily easy it was. Also, before everyone starts believing all of the drivil of the "Superior Europeans", remember this: while they like to remind us that they have a superior record of high school graduation than we do, europeans actually have to test into high school in the first place. The ones that make it in are usually college bound. All the rest that cannot test in, end up in trade schools or apprenticeships as waiters. When the dust clears, the success rates on those entrance exams are about what we have for high school graduation. Also remember that these are people that have treated despotic dictators like rock stars! Probably why they loved Saddam so much. After all, his Bath Party was started by Adolf Hitler back in the 1930's. And they love him for being something else all of the notorious dictators were, SOCIALISTS! As for the Canadians, they can go to hell (sorry for the religious reference, but no good athiest comment to substitute). I give no quarter to those that would cheer as those planes were hitting the Trade Center Buildings. Such behavior is enough to make civilized people vomit!

I applaud the Canadian people for electing a different party (no matter which) to run the country. I have falimy in Canada and was getting tired of hearing them rant. I was wondering when Canadians would tire of the Liberal Party's corruption...'nuf said on that.

Every country goes through changes of support for whatever war is happening at that particular time. Support it, don't support it, depending on the mood of the people and how close the politicians are to their term expiring. That's a product of politics.

Look at the wars fought by the US in this century. Until this one, they were entered by Democrats, more losses per year than this one, more support in the US than this one.

If this had been a Democrat president in this war, your voices would have been singing a different song. You know it.

The "war on Terror" was predicted to be a long, drawn out process, and we were told it would not be easy. It is, and it certianly has not been (respectively).

The lyrics in a recent Neil Young release go: "We don't need no shadow government." Bush's masters are the

Bildebergs: which include nefarious power mongers such as his father, Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, David Rockefeller, the list goes on...their intent is to enslave us (via financial and political means) in their quest for a "One World Government" run by self-annointed elitists. NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM on the back of the U.S. Dollar means "NEW WORLD ORDER". A phrase used repeatedly by Bush SR when he was RULING (not governing) us. Oh yea, and I'm NOT a liberal, but very much an alarmed right wing conservative.

It would be nice once in a while if you right wingers actually had something to say instead of just falling back on calling the left kooks and idiots. The idiot comments are always amusing looking at who our president is right now.

avatar
Reply

I have to disagree with JJTopp on his statement on BushSR. Had it not been for Desert Shield/Storm, he would have probably been as ineffective a leader as Johnson. Neither had strong leadership qualities, and a war was the only thing they had going for them, though with different results for each.

In agreement, "New World Order" is spouted by both Dems and Reps to the point that I dont think about what it stands for. Looking at history, I come away with the idea that it was meant to stress international freedom and peace (my interpretation may not be others). Now days, it seems to mean "Let's govern ourselves like everyone else."

The best we can hope for is that our allies, whomever they may be, make up their minds, and decide if their support, or lack of, whichever is the case, is perminant. If not, this story is going to be forgotten in the future anyway so it means nothing. If so, maybe future politicians will learn something.

Fotz45,

And no Netscape commenters ever resort to calling the right "Bible Thumping Right Wing Whackos." =)

I think with all these political stories rising to the top, people seem to have a tendency to get really angry and split down the middle instead of agreeing.

Yes, Bush's allies are leaving office, but not necessarily because they're being forced out. Right now is a changing time politically, and personally, I wish people would spend less time polarizing America and more time coming together. The end rarely justifies the means, and if people would be realistic instead of militaristic, we'd all be a little better.

..And we need more non-liberals who understand what we are doing over there and not criticizing our president and troops, someone who doesn't listen to the liberal media that brainwashes people into believing everything over in Iraq is "gloom and doom", someone who is smart enough to get their info from other sources, like perhaps people who have actually gone over there in the red zone to actually see the progress that we have made, not held-up in a cushy, hotel inside the green-zone reporting "anti-mamerican" jiberish...

There are too many "arm chair politicians" out there with "their agendas" to be heard on Netscape. And since when is it that elected politicians are not to have a personal agenda? Each and every one does!

My only other comment here is that people should proof read what they write. Spelling errors and the misuse of words seem to abound. Such errors detract and bring out the fact that the author of such writing is not all that bright.

Other than that, most all people here have their minds made up as to how they politically think. No one here, with their rhetoric, could probably or possibly ever change a way of thinking.

[And blame all the debt, dead soldiers, stolen votes, newly acquired Anti-American foreign voices, spy tactics, Constitutional over-riding agendas, on the Enron escaping President that we call Bush. All the people that voted for this fool did so without knowing what his politics really were and the actual issues at hand.]

Let's not even look at all this political labelling we humans are so fond of...

Let's look at the human who is the occupant of the White House at this moment: no charm, no tact, no finesse, no savoir-faire, no savvy, no knowledge of anything worthwhile... Yes, here we have it! He who shall go down in history as America's worst president ever.

Total and utter agreement with Olivia2537 and K21bl.

By the way, a little linguistic tidbit: demo (people) + crat (to rule), so democrats and democracy are much closer to what America the free world is all about. Rule for and by the people!

Re (res = latin for thing) + publican (pub/popol... = things of the people. Well, the people need to throw out the useless things that are making America lose face and credibility.

I have to make a comment to those who have made the error of saying that America is a democracy. WE have a Republic. We elect representatives to go to Washington and make decisions for us. If this was a democracy, everyone would vote on everything.

Even our state governments are republics. This founding fathers knew the country would grow, and that a democracy would be too unweildy.

Reference Greece thousands of years ago. Theirs was a democracy.

The world leaders did not support England when they stood up against Hitler until war was inevitable. It is too bad that more leaders don't have the guts and fortitude to stand up against not only the terrorists, but also the people who support their right to exist and kill innocent people.

marcpiery. As a Canadian, I must take offence to your ill-informed comments. We DID NOT CHEER on 9/11. To the contrary, our airports welcomed US-bound travellers from around the world including many, many Americans. We gave all shelter, food, and compassion – ofetn to the point of inviting people into our homes until they could return to their own. You claim to have a university education. Could you let us know which online "university" you received it from?

As for Vermont Cows, you are very close in your analysis of the Canadian elections. It is true that Jean Chretien (Prime Minister at the time of Iraq) was forced from office because of a spending scandal unrelated to global politics. His Liberal Party successor (interim Prime Minister) went down to defeat because of the same scandal.

Since Cannada is not yet ready (and probably never will be) ready to elect a socialist party to power, Stephen Harper's Conservatives won a plurality (not majority) more to come ...

Seems to me the people who celebrate the attacks on 9/11 are the ones who tend to profit the most from it ... the Republicans, who throw that in the face of any challenge to any aspect of their platform (tax cuts for people making $200K or better, Paris Hilton's inheritance, etc.) ... Halliburton ... Exxon/Mobil ... GE ... Faux ... chickenhawk Republicans who want to send everybody else's kids off to war ...

Way I figure it, a third of the millions who voted for Bush in 04 should move their butts off to enlist ... that figure is derived from the "enlistable age" (rising quickly - currently 42), the physically capable (anal cysts and "jogger's knee" included), and non-women (hey, the Repukes hate the idea that women can defend their country, too!).

Of course, Republicans can avoid the military because they're soooo afraid that some homo is going to get excited over their naked butt ... Jeff Gannon should have enlisted, since he had the hots for men in uniform.

nothing surprising about the article. what is odd to me is how right wing people follow the same habit of the gop in bashing others rather than giving their side of the story. it is not anti-american to be anti-bush. it is not even anti-patriotic. one reader said that many people in this nation are behind bush. but many is still 35%, which is not close to the majority. still, they have a right to their opinion, why don't the rest of americans have that right?

for any gop fans, please do something political opponents don't and try healthy debate, rather than bashing.

No Cambridge neo-con, the thing is, the far left, as you put it, has ZERO BETTER ideas. They best they can manage is to be AGAINST those who have the ability to come up with ANY ideas...why do you think that the left has lost the past two presidential elections with many more to follow at every level? What ideas they do have are NOT based in the reality in which we ALL live, they are all based in some utopian wonderland that DOES NOT EXIST, and never will, on Earth. Tell me 2 good ideas that the far-left Dem Liberals have come up with...no, I'll REALLY challenge you to just 1 good idea of theirs. Abortion? Nope, that's conveniently legal murder. Keep trying...Peace at ANY price? Nope, that's extortion and moral hypocracy.

Um...I've seen bashing from both sides, Dems and Reps. It seems that today's political arena is so hotly divided that neither side can come up with anything but bashing.

To tell the truth, both side sicken me to the point that I hate to even remotely suggest my political affilitation. Not many people WANT to have a healthy dialogue any more. Those that try get flamed by everyone else for their views.

If all the Reps got together and tried a discussion, there are those that would jump in and flame Dems for whatever reason, turning it into a hate fest against the left

If Dems tried a discussion, it would turn into a huge Bush, right wing bashing session.

In neither case would anything positive come out of the discussions. There is too much polarization. No, there can't be a reasonable discussion between parties either.

Too many people take their opinions too seriously to think there can be any room for consideration of other ideas.

Many Canadians disagree with Bush on Iraq. Many believe that Bush's reasons for being there are misguided at best and outright lies at worst. Many other Canadians support his decision. That is the beauty of democracy. That is what Canadian soldiers are fighting (and dying) for in Afganistan. It is possible for Canadians to disagree with your president and still wish to maintain our long friendship with the US. Personally, I believe that America deserves better leaders than the gaggle of self-interested, rapacious money-grubbers who currently inhabit the White House. You have good people of honor and integrity in both your political paties. We look forward to seeing them elected.

Well, at least the rest of the world is smarter than about 34% of the U.S. population.... And, of course, smarter than Bush. Other world leaders and other plain, ordinary people understand that Bush is an empty vessel--arrogant, hypocritical (saying he's Christian while behaving in total opposition to Christian tenets), belligerent, totally clueless about world history & culture, and without strength of character. If he'd had half the knowledge and foresight as all the great leaders of history, we wouldn't be embroiled in Iraq while Afghanistan is in turmoil again & bin Laden goes free; we would be able to deal effectively with the TRUE WMD threats of N Korea & Iran, etc., etc., etc. Bush's presidency is an utter failure. Other than making a great speech on 9/11 and signing the bill to extend the adoption tax credit, I can think of nothing he has done right, or effectively.

This is a perfect example of media bias. The title of the piece is 'Bush's Foreign Friends Fading Fast' which leads one to believe that to be Bush's friend is politically detrimental. The author seems to support that assertion in the first half of the story with several examples of leaders who have lost there office. It is only IF you get to the end that you see examples of Bush critics who suffer the same fate.

I think the media should be free to report as they please, but to call stories like this unbiased is simply insulting. Don't tell me that you are a neutral observer then write a story like this.a

You guys sure are intelligent. I agree completely, if only Bush were like some of the old leaders this country loved, like Abe, oh wait, didn't Lincoln and FDR, two of the most generally liked presidents also push their power over the constitution and the supreme court. Face it, Bush may not be the smartest, but on an issue of policy and budget deficit, he is just trying to fix what happened to America. Besides this shouldn't be simply Dem v. Rep, argue a point, don't just fight. On a side note, any economic problem you have can be blamed on Clinton, yeah opening china was a great idea.
