      Well, they had to do so eventually. They're not getting any external funding before this happens.

      It is kind of typical for the political situation that this happens and then Israel attacks Gaza to release a soldier from some militant Palestinian group. In order to build peace, there should be a recognition from each government of the other government and at least an attempt to consult each other when something like this occurs. I'm not saying they shouldn't free the soldier, just that it might annoy less Palestinians if they got some soldiers from the PA to join them.

      This is really not more than was indicated by Hamas at the time of the election, it was anticipated, but is still important in order to avoid further tension, and hopefully to resume external relief to the people of Palestine.
